I normally don't name my pieces but this one reminded me of something found in an archilogical dig somewhere thus the name. It measures 8-3/4" dia. x 7-1/4" tall. Finished with antique oil and buffed. As always comments/critiques are welcome.

Keith....Beautifully done! The wood is gorgous with all the orifices and color changes through it. It must have made a different sound while turning it. Do you always pray that much while turning?

Nicely done Keith!

Nice work! I turned a vase out of this just lately and it is a task in patience and prayer.

Lovely. I don't have the nerve to turn something with that many voids yet. Hats off to you!

Beautiful Keith. Easy to check wall thickness. Scary area there near the top. Did you wrap the outside with anything while hollowing?

I really like it. It does remind me of a piece of pottery that has been uncovered at a dig site. Way over my head in regards to the complexity of turning something like this.

PUCKER FACTOR!!! Keith, that thing is really, really neat! I love the wood, and the color variation is really eye catching contrasted against the dark edges of the voids. Exceptionally nice, but I don't think I have the intestinal fortitude to attempt it!!

That is one beautiful piece! The way you oriented it on the lathe was perfect! Wow......its color is just stunning! Great work!

Is there a particular supplier you use? I think I may have to try one sometime. :)

Thanks guys for your comments. I turned this as I would any HF starting out between centers then turnung a tennon and mount it in the chuck. Then I used my captive hollowing rig on the inside. The only thing I used on the outside to help hold it together was some painters tape. Lots of sharpening tools though cause I didn't want a dull edge screwing things up.

Great piece, Keith! I bet it took at least 10-12 minutes to hollow that out, huh?

Wow what a great piece. Did you have any idea before you started that it would turn out like it did. Was it a pain in the (you know what) to sand and finish the inside? I hope to someday make a piece this nice. A TRUE PIECE OF ART!

I look at a lot of web site, books, & magazines and see a so many pieces that are really nothing more than ordinary. This piece really stands out in the crowd. It definately made me do a double take. Isn't it just great when the wood, form, color and finish all come together like pieces of a puzzle. The plantes must have been aligned just right for this one.
