MY money is on cherry, but I thought I'd ask to confirm or deny. it's a stripped chest of drawers. I was also thinking maple since it was partially painted.

I'm not sure my guess is a couple of years. no more than 5.

It looks to me to be cherry because of the grain and pitch pockets.

Cherry, birch, alder or similar. Hard to tell the color from those pictures, but any of these will be nice to refinish. The pores seem to be a bit more obvious than in the cherry I've used or have in "inventory", so I'm waffling on the birch at this point.

Keith, maybe a silly question but is it solid wood or plywood? From the bookmatching, it could be ply but I thought I'd ask. I'm not sure it helps in identifying it however. It is really hard to tell from the photos but I don't think it is oak or pine and I'm not sold on cherry! :D
