Elementary' Screwdrivers

http://www.toolpost.co.uk/pages/Woodworking_Tools/Screwdrivers/Elementary_Screwdriver_Set.jpg (javascript:top.display('Elementary%20Screwdriver. jpg',800,1050))These excellent screwdrivers are one cabinet-maker's answer to the problem of being unable to find a traditional style screwdriver that is capable of driving modern crosshead style screws as well as traditional slotted screws.
We all know that interchangeable bit 'drivers are versatile but oh those plastic handles?! Blisters abound! Now, thanks to the initiative of Justin Holmes you can have the best of both worlds.
There are two designs of screwdriver in the range: one a traditional style approximately 9" (225 mm) overall and the second a "chubby" style measuring just about 3" (75 mm). The handles are turned from beech and incorporate flats both preventing rolling off the bench and giving that extra bit of grip. Being wooden handles - and delightfully "chunky" ones too - you can use these 'drivers all day, every day, in both hot and cold weather without suffering blisters, sweaty hands or frozen fingers. And they take on a lovely patina with use just like "real" tools used to!
The well made bits supplied are, for the individually-packed screwdrivers, 5 mm and 7 mm flat blades, PZ1 and PZ2 for Pozidrive and Supadrive screws and PH1 and PH2 styles for users of that older US-derived style. The twin-driver set contains both types of 'driver and a similar set of tips plus a 6 mm flat blade and both PZ3 and PH3 sizes.
Nicely packaged in robust cartons, with an information sheet, making these unusual products an excellent notion for gift-giving.

Look very nice, although pretty expensive (over $60 US for the pair). Worth it to some, I have no doubt.

My search for nice screwdrivers started with the primo LV screwdrivers (http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=2&p=32208&cat=1,43411,43417&ap=2) (about $14 each), which I liked fine. But then I tried Rockler's $13 Deluxe 4-in-1 screwdriver (http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=22154), and concluded to my great surprise that I liked it much better. For me, the Rockler is perfect -- I find interchangeable tips more convenient, and the handle on this one has very nice heft, nice materials and a quality feel, it fits my hand well, and it looks handsome. Makes me happy every time I pick it up. Go figure.

You may be right. I didn't do a currency conversion, I just looked at the US prices on the first several that came up when I googled and they all were $60 or above for the set or $30 or above for either of the two.

I'm not knocking them, they may be worth every penny of that.

Nice looking screw driver indeed Matt!
As for the LN, They are some what specific oriented... Well over the $40 for a versatile set and you only have flat head! I just tought it was worth showing what I found for the people who are looking for a nice looking, versatile and adressing what people were asking a wile back on an other thread. As for the price... ho well... Some people are paying a few thousands dollars for hand planes... i think prices on things are allways relative, some of us think that LN/LV are to expensive and other think that $10 for an old Stanley plane is over payed!!
Just some thouths!
