My oldest son Henry loves going out to my shop with me. This is one of his latest small projects. I really enjoyed painting this small truck with him. He picked out all of the colors.

Fantastic! My son is way too little to join me in the shop. But he does have the same green truck that's over your son's left shoulder!

I empathize with that joy. My son's five and loves being with me in my shop too.

Michael,
Some of my best memories are shoptime with our boys. Make sure you write a date and name, (if more than 1 child) on them.Twenty five years later it's tough to remember which boy built which project when!
Bird feeders and his own toolbox are fun projects also.

Henry is 4. He is one of my pride and joy's. My youngest son Jack is only 6 months old, but he will get his time in my shop also. When Henry and I are out in the shop, I always teach him SAFETY and the correct ways of using tools.

That's really awesome to see. Most father's now-a-days are so wrapped up with work there's no time for family.

I commend you for taking the time out to spend with your son.

I'm 30 and newly married, no kids yet, but I can remember all the times I spent with my dad in the woodshop. I could drive a 16penny nail before I could walk. I'm looking forward to the same thing with my son one day.

My 3.5 year old daughter asks me all the time if we can go to the workshop. So we spend tons of time there together. I don't get much "done" but we accomplish tons, if you get my meaning. My father always had time for me, and i am determined to be the same way with her.

Maybe I am swayed by my bias, but I was floored a few weeks ago when my 6 year old son found a way to drive a #10 screw completely through a scrap piece of 3/4" plywood. He had a hammer and screwdriver, nothing else. He worked on it for probably 45 minutes. I couldn't believe it. I used a drill to take the screw back out...

This is a great thread. It reminded me I need to take more time strictly for them in the shop, to give them an opportunity to create something themselves and experience the pride and joy of showing it off when finished. I love the truck project. If anybody else has any kid workshop project ideas, I'd love to see them!

The start of many good times to come for all of you. My son is 26 and my daughter 22 and every time they visit now they still want to find time to do something in the shop. We have many great memories and some good pictures too “DON’T FORGET TO TAKE PICTURES” .

My two-year old wearing headphones for the first time. :)

I can't wait to do projects with him. For now, hammering scrap wood is one of his favorite things.

Great job! Its great to see a father-son team at it.

I can't wait to get my 5 year old started in woodworking. He can start Cub Scouts next year so he'll be building a pine wood derby car as well. I already let him use the brad nailer and his mother about has a heart attack

From the smile on your sons face I do believe that will be one of your finest works. You have built more than just a small project.

GOOD JOB
