I just received a good size chunk of green cherry burl. Does it need to be rough turned to dry out, or can you go right to the final thickness of the form without problems? I thought it might be stable enough because of the grain structure of the burl.
Never turned green burl before of any kind.
Thanks for the input.

Michael - your experience may be different than mine but green Cherry burl wants to crack like you wouldn't believe! Suggest you rough turn it and do what you can to slow down the moisture loss - either DNA method or double paper bag with shavings - anything to slow down the drying!

Lots of luck! Looking forward to seeing what you turn out of it!
