Hi all!

I have a customer who wants to re-use a picture frame. I will probably sell her a new one, but can this type of engraved frame be re-engraved? Would there be a shadow of the previous engraving? Can you believe I have not tried this before?http://webmail.att.net/wmc/en-US/v/wm/4B43DDD40003B0C200000DDE22218801869B0A02D29B9B0EBF 9B9D0E0B010199040506/Unknown%20Name?cmd=GetImg&no=40&uid=58538&sid=c0&name=55316D8F-F4FF-4C19-B408-632FB7D50DD5

Oh dear! I guess I did. It is a laser engraved frame with a logo that a customer wants to re-use. I wanted to know if the previous laser marks would show through if I just engraved a solid rectangle over the previous design. Since I haven't tried this before, and will probably just sell her a new one, I am just curious. I believe the engraving could be "hidden" if I reverse the logo and letters and do more than one pass. So, my question is, can a previously lasered alder frame be recycled? Just wondering....

Hi Leigh;
Yes, I do it all the time, HOWEVER
I run it through a drum sander until the previous engraving is gone and then
respray the frame with lacquer.
Best regards;

Leigh,

If you have the same art, invert the black and white, can get it lined up exactly, you can salvage this. You have nothing to lose, because if it fails, you have a nice rectangular shape in which to recess an engraved plate.

I would not sell it to a customer this way without them knowing, but might make a nice donation or an item you could sell to a customer at a discount under its salvaged condition.
