Why put the wood on the sole? Do you think it changes the way the plane works or feels when you use it?

The R is for rosewood... i put it on there, i think it's brazilian. The wood on wood action is super smooth.

I think it's a neet idea for fixing a plane with to wide of a mouth. Or with a badly pitted sole. an other way to save an old plane! How did you open the mouth?
