I have a 25 yr old 12" Craftsman bandsaw with a tired 1/2 HP motor. It has done most anything I've asked it to do...except resawing. 1/2 HP is just too small. Anyway, it seems that I saw somewhere that if I were to put a 3/4 HP or so on it, it may be able to handle lighter resawing tasks. No, this isn't the "premier" bandsaw by any means, but in your opinion, is this worth considering? Ideally, I'd opt for a Grizz triple nickel or Rikon, but then I'd have to get it in the shop without SWMBO knowing about it...not likely!

All opinions welcome.
Thanks,
John

After 25 years it is safe to assume the saw has mostly met your needs. I had a 12" C-man and with a good blade I could re-saw just under 6" if I was very patient; about 3-4 seconds per inch. If that will meet your needs, I would consider a motor if you can find one at a good price.
