I was disappointed that this didn't much look like burl grain but it is what it is. Measures 8 wide 7 high. Seal coat finish and hand waxed with paste wax. Thanks for looking.

Mike that is a really neat form. I would like to see how you finished the bottom and approximate size of this piece.

Mike.....Gorgeous piece as we have come to expect from you.

While like you I don't see the normal "burl" the wood sure has some pretty grain....can you see the smiling guy's face in the grain too?

Lovely! The form makes up for the relative lack of figure.

Mike, I actually like the grain in the wood. There isn't a lot of burl, but it compliments the form of this piece quite well. Interesting design, too. What were the turning steps in doing this? As a newbie, the order of progression on some of these pieces is of interest to me.

Very neat. I will second what John said about the "how you got there" pictures.

Wow!!! That's really artful! Cool design! I like the grain, the natural edge and the soft finish! This took some forethought and planning and I think you did good!

You entering this in a juried show?

As far as the measurements its 8x7 (as I said in the post;)).

I didn't tak any pics this time of the progress but I'll try to give you the play by play. I turned between centers first the outside profile and tenon on the bottom. Chucked it up and turned the bowl part and sanded. Vav chucked and hollowed the bottom and sanded. Do the math for the three feet and I sanded the arches out on a large floor model edge sander I have. Advantage of owning a cabinet shop I guess.

Very cool idea, and I think the wood looks nice. I'm not sure I like the proportions of the top vs. bottom but I'm viewing it on my phone which may be distorting the picture. Thanks for posting

Mike as usual it is a treat to see one of your turnings, thanks :D :D

I'm not critiquing here Mike just debating with myself ;), just thinking that a more balanced top would maybe look better, I like the way you did the feet, them and the curved body look good together, it just flows right up, yes nice one Mike :)
