Does anyone know of a consistently good woodworking show coming up this winter? I went to the show last year in St Paul MN, what a dud. It took about an hour to see everything. I wouldn't mind getting away from the cold (-26F tonight)and go someplace warm for a weekend this winter.

I think the internet has replaced the woodworking shows, at least in the eyes of many manufacturers and exhibitors.

Now the new products are publicized online, and we are used to buying at below MSRP. Throw in the killer big-box discounts on many items and there isn't a lot of room for show discounts on many items.

So fewer and fewer companies are exhibiting, and the shows continue to draw fewer and fewer folks.

My $0.02 but I think the big shows are going to be a distant memory before too long.

I also think the Internet has had an effect on the show but also retail stores.
I can only speak of here in Cincinnati but just a short time ago you had to order everything mail order. Now we have www.rockler.com (http://www.rockler.com) , www.woodcraft.com, www.hardwoodlumberandmore.com and www.muellerco.com (http://www.muellerco.com) All with stores in this area. So I have no need to go to a show and pay parking etc...

I go to the woodowrking show in collinsville as well. We have family down that way that makes it a nice trip overnight if we wish. Lots of nice restaurants in the St. Louis area as well so we have fun.

The show lets you lay hands on many of the items you might like to feel before buying.

Sometimes there are good combo sale prices as well.

That being said I have to save $30 in order to off set the cost of gas and attendance if I do not make the trip for other reasons. Parking is free at this show though.

I do look foreward to that trip though.

Woodwerks in Columbus, OH has an excellent (last time I went at least) in-store show. Their store is a woodworking super-store even without the show but that weekend they bring in a lot of their vendors, run specials, etc. They run it the same weekend that The Woodworking Show is in town so you can hit both. There's also a Woodcraft in Columbus and I wouldn't be surprised they do some kind of in-store show that weekend as well.

But Columbus in January isn't warm.

Thanks just what I was looking for. Atlanta might be a good option or maybe Frederickberg. The wife is taking about warming up on a Mexican beach though....

Jan 30th is the Hawaii Wood Guild show and then March is the Big Island Wood turners show.
Look up the web sites for more info.

Warm weather at least! :D

Hawaii now we're talking. The wife and I were there in 1990, said we'd go back every year but haven't. But you've got me thinking. Doubt the wife can get away from work long enough to go though, but I'm gonna try!!

I asked a guy at the store I bought my new grinder at recently if they were going to be in the upcoming "The Woodworking Shows" show and he said yes. According to him, one of the other woodworking show promotion companies went bankrupt. I told him it was too bad that both shows couldn't be combined into one. Both shows were a bit too small. About 2 years ago I went to 2 different shows to see all the exibitors that should have been in one show and in this economy, they should have thought of that. Maybe that will happen in the future, who knows??? Write your Congressman. Tell them this is a direct attack on frugal woodworkers everywhere!

The woodworking club I belong too had reps from Lie-Nielsen come in, and they told us that they don't go to the Woodworking shows. They would sooner visit Woodworking clubs around the country. We had a two hands on demo, it was great.

I went to the IWF show in Vegas last year. It was poorly attended. It was in the middle of all the bankrupt banks etc. So people where not spending money..

In the Building supply business.. There used to be 3 big shows a year... Now there is one..

The single show is in January, in Saskatchewan.. It is very well attended.. The other two shows died due to a lack of attendance.

I am going to the Saskatchewan show. There are huge savings to be had. If there where not, I would not attend.. For the shows to survive, there has to be incentive.

The Woodworking show in Vancouver is well attended.. People show up in the thousands..
