Ecofan

I heat mostly with wood (I also use a heat pump system). One day a couple years back the wife ordered an Ecofan by Caframo out of Canada. Put it on the stove, heats to a certain temperatue, the blades spin and direct heat where pointed. All's fine and well, this thing worked good and is QUIET. Now, however, it just will not start or stay running. Sometimes it works just fine. Called and got a motor/generator replacement (not yet installed). Lubed the shaft and tried other "tricks" to no avail. I like to trouble shoot and have learned this.

No matter what I do, manually spin, cross my fingers....no go

BUT....just let me get full of static electricity and TOUCH a stopped blade and that thing is off to the races!!! Help me creeksters in understanding what is happening here?
