A couple of weeks ago I posted a gloat about my new Monster Articulated System. The pic I posted had a piece of Hickory on the lathe but I just used that to play with and learn the new tool. Here is the first real form using the Monster. It is my 4th hollow form of any type.
A pretty piece of Ambrosia Maple that had quite a few checks and cracks. The finish is just BLO. The size is 7 inches by 2.75 inches with a thickness of just over 1/8" at the top to just over 1/4" in the bottom.
Please excuse the quality of the photos, I do not have a photo tent setup yet.

Nice job on the hollow form! Beautiful wood! First glance I thought it was laminated.... lots going on with the colors!
So, how do you like your new system?

Impressive. I just made my first sort of HF yesterday - a much bigger opening and much less pronounced curve. How smooth is the inside on something like this? Just curious as to what I should be shooting for. Oh, and is something like this possible freehand?

Thanks for the comments. I have a few bowls from that same log and it is very pretty wood.
Steve, I really like the system. The laser is a great tool and the system is so smooth, it is much easier to feel what the cutter is doing on the inside, compared to handheld hollowers. I did use my 3/4" Kelton handheld tools for the initial roughing of the inside. This wood was cut over a year ago and was still a little wet but I turned it to finish thickness with no movement that I can detect.
Sean, you can most certainly do this type of form freehand but I have only done 3, successfully, freehand.

Pretty HF using some outstanding wood. Congrats on a great piece. You sure chose a tough form for learning the Monster tool! Those high kinda square shoulders are rough to reach the outer limits on and keep a smallish mouth...Bill..
