A friend and I gathered a bunch of wood today from a recent storm. Several pieces of sweet gum 20 - 24" dia, some small pieces of holly and cherry laurel. I had never turned cherry laurel so had to try that first. This goblet is fresh off the lathe and still very wet, I expect some interesting distortion by tomorrow. It is 2-1/2" dia x 6-1/2" tall.

Very nice Dennis. I like it.

I'm looking forward to the pictures after it dries.

Dennis, that is a SUPER thin stem!! Did you turn the goblet bowl first, then use the tailstock for support? Amazing you were able to get it that thin.

BTW, what is cherry laurel? Is it a shrub vs. tree?

I like it! Can't wait to see what mother nature does to it as it dries.

Pretty cool. Don't know how much it will move as it looks like an end grain turning, but it pretty as is.
