I’m looking for a high quality library catch. I bought this one awhile back and started to install it today but I just don’t like it, it looks, I dunno, cheap.

Does anyone have sources for hi-quality hardware? I looked at White Chapel but didn’t find anything.

Thanks

Bruce,

I have bought some nice hardware from here: http://www.hardwaresource.com/index.php

Thanks Ken. They have a lot of everything else but not much in the way of cabinet door latches. My cabinet from hell has one door that is a little tweaked.
I’m trying to come up with a way to make it conform to my way of thinking.

would a bullet catch hold it? or, more tweaked thanthat?

Kent, it’s the door on the right, the left door stayed flat. It’s not tweaked much, maybe an 1/8” but each door will have 9 beveled glass windows so they will end up being fairly heavy. I’m looking for something that will hold the right door in position but not be tacky looking. If such a thing exists..
I also bought some bullet catches but I don’t think they’ll hold it. The doors are 4/4 QSWO.

Bruce - very nice - please remember to post finished photos.

I made a pair of stickley repro bookcases with glass in the inset doors - same concept - YMMV, but you might find that if you get the offending door flatenned out on your bench when you go to install the glass and the stops, that this adds enough "oompf" to pull it into line. This happened to me on one door - no issue with fracturing the glass, even after 8 years and a household move. ALso QSWO, but the doors are 4" or so tall, and the main glass panel is about 3' tall.

Or - what about just a simple throw-bolt type of latch, that sits behind the door and buries into a mortise in the bottom panel? You have to throw it to open the right door, which is kinda lame, I guess.

Thanks Kent. I'm still looking but I might just go with what I have.
I just hate to cut the mortise and not have it work.

Bruce,

I had a similar problem with a built-in cabinet that I made for my house. I used one of these...

They can be found at:

I mounted it like the silver one above on the inside of the offending door. I then used a nice looking latch on the outside of the left-hand door to finish the piece.

Good luck!

Thanks Jason, they might have what I'm looking for.
