I finally finished a project. It's not without flaws, Critiques welcome. It's made of cherry with a coat of BLo, shellac and varnish.

Beautiful, I especially love the triptych. Oh wait, is that a mirror? Some people get all the views.

Richard - that is very very nice. Beautiful work. Only flaw I see with it is that it is not in my house.

Strong effort. I really like it. The mirror threw me off in the first pic. I thought it was a painting of some sort. Good work!

Beautiful!

The view from your shop door is very nice, also;)

What a great looking piece. I do think the knot (?) in the back center is distracting, I would have tried to work around that. Nice looking scenery in the mirror as well.

Great looking piece, how is that for criticism?
Oh, and where is the album recording the process?

Beautiful piece and very nice finish. Cherry can be a bother to finish at times. Yours looks warm and inviting.

I'm glad Ron mentioned the knot in the kneehole back panel. That's tragic. But outside of that small flaw, you should be very proud of this project.

Now that it has been mentioned, you could cover it with a veneer.

When you set it on the floor with a chair or vanity bench in front of it, it probably will not be distracting.

Great job.

Stunning! Beautiful. I never saw the knot until it was mentioned. It does stick out now that I look for it though. I saved pictures of it. It is one of the nicests pieces I have seen posted this year. Very awesome.

I liked the drawer fronts.

Is it common to round the corners of the (stiles?) near the knee area -- either for this period design, or for other desks in general?

A discrete knot can add character... maybe don't give the camera a straight-in shot next time. I have to admit that this was not the first thing that I saw in that picture, though... like others, I was looking at the mountain scenery :-)

Spectacular. Beautiful finish. Personally I like the knot well placed. Then again I'm a big fan of pitch pockets in cherry also.

Nice job

Richard, that is beautiful...how long did it take to buildCouldn't tell you how many hours. I've been working on it off and on for 3 months and I'm by no means a fast woodworker. I couldn't support myself building like that.

That knot is not visible in it's normal setting unless you 18'' tall.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

.... I do think the knot (?) in the back center is distracting, I would have tried to work around that.......

One would have to spend a lot of time on their knees to notice that.

Beautiful work. Cabriole legs aren't my personal style, but I'd welcome your beautiful piece into my home nonetheless. I love the color, proportions, and execution. Really nice.

What are ya doing with the door open - you’re in Alaska!
Beautiful. I love the cabriole legs. Did you have any trouble cutting the mirrors?

The door is open to get some natural light on the vanity for a better photo. I took some photos inside under the florescent lights and they looked like crap. The florescent light seem to kill the redness and makes it look an ugly brown.

Then mirrors were professionally cut.

Richard

The knot is not tragic it is your signature ... :) That is a beautiful piece and for what it is worth if I had ten to pick from I'd choose the one with the knot. That way mine would be unique.

What did you use for drawer slides?

Richard - It is a great piece of furniture. I think Ron and Dave are off base. You put the knot (which in my opinion adds a little character) in the most appropriate place. I would be willing to bet that you made sure that the worst of the knot was in the back. You just don't throw expensive hardwood away. Unfortunately I showed it to my wife and she wanted it. :)
