I have been commisioned to make a bathroom vanity with a 17 inck wooden bowl for a sink. I am worried about sealing it so that it doesn't leak or mold. Has anyone ever done that here? I have seen them in catalogs and such, but can't remember where. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome
Thanks,
Tom

In the gallery on Alan Lacer's website, he has a photo of a sink made out of mesquite. You might send him an email asking him about how he finished the sink. I'd assume it was some kind of two-part epoxy.

Might find some info in the Boatbuilders' Forum (of SMC).

You might try these folks

www.stabilzedwood.com

they specialize in wood stabilization and might b able to guide you. I don't know that the process would be waterproff but it should eliminate wood movement at least. Let us know what you end up doing.

Thanks for the suggestions. I investigated all of them and found that the commercial stabilizing companies require dry wood free of any wax. So I guess I'll rough turn a couple of sinks and anchor seal them and let them dry for a while. The customer isn't in a real hurry so I can experiment a little. I think I'll see what the finished bowl weighs and see if stabilization is practical. (they charge by the pound) I will also try some pentacryl and epoxy. I'll let everyone know how it works out.
Thanks,
Tom
