Here is the first bowl I turned on the new PM 3520. It is Maple burl about 5 inches by 2.5 inches and wall thickness of 3/16". I finished it with 3 coats of Tung oil then Beall buffed it. When I brought it in to show LOML she said don't you have something bigger to turn:o you bought that lathe that can turn 20" and this is what you bring me!

Keith, that is some gorgeous stuff! Nice bowl, and you need to tell the wife that size doesn't matter!!:D A little bit cliche, but it may work?!?!

Beautiful bowl Keith! Love the wood! Nice thing about your new lathe - you have options as far as how big - or small - you want to turn!

That's a nice bowl. I really like the figure in the wood. Good job showing it off.

Nice job... That's pretty wood. I'd tell my wife to head out and pick up a 20 inch bowl blank if that's what she wanted... Then I'd run for my life.

Nice bowl Keith. Now time to find some bigger wood, or buy some lumber for segmenting.

Nice looking bowl. Now to get some larger wood and really see what the monster can do. Turning a large green piece and seeing the curls fly is addictive.

That's a beauty. So, do you like the new lathe?

NICE bowl from a beautiful piece of wood.

Just because you drive a Porsche doesn't mean you have to drive 100 miles an hour everywhere, besides this is your first time in the driver's seat, gotta get used to the steering.

Sounds like a challenge, and a reason to be out turning, to me. Go for it.

Congrats on the lathe. Nice bowl, too.

...So, do you like the new lathe?

Dan

Absolutely!!!!:D:D:D It is incredible how much easier it is to turn something on a REAL lathe instead of the Shopsmith.

That was my thought!! Completely different spindle height from the Shopsmith and so much more power:cool:. I needed to see how she handled before stepping up on size. That is why I didn't bother attaching the bed extension, yet. The thought of turning 20" let alone 32" makes my heart skip:eek:.
