A co-worker asked me to turn some bottle stoppers for Christmas, so this is what I turned while waiting for the lacquer to cure on some peppermills (http://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=128183).

From left to right: Curly Western Maple, Spalted Sweet Gum, Purpleheart/Maple/Veneer, Sweet Gum, Cocobolo, Spalted Sweet Gum, and Koa.

They are all finished with Deft rattle can lacquer, Beall buffed and finished with Ren wax.

Nice! I haven't done any bottle stoppers yet, but obviously need to try them. Where do you get your stoppers?

Also, the spalted sweet gum is beautiful!! Those are my favorites, even though I am a sucker for curly maple.

I am using Ruth Niles stoppers (http://torne-lignum.com/). I tried some of the other chromed ones out there and they have already pitted from being in a bottle. I like hers being stainless and the lower pofile so that your turning is what really shows above the bottle.

The spalted sweet gum were my favorite as well! They can be addictive, along with everything else to do with turning!!

Great job. Agree with the spalt comments from the others. Haven't tried Niles' stoppers but will be ordering them next go round
