This may get a bit long, but:
Charlie Crotieau is a past President of the Central New England Woodturners (CNEW (http://www.cnew.org/)) and, I am happy to say, a good friend... He donates a lot of time and energy to the Free Wheelchair Mission (http://www.freewheelchairmission.org/site/c.fgLFIXOJKtF/b.4916275/k.BE91/Home.htm) (FWM). I got to know him and the mission at the same time, I got to know the mission through having met Charlie.

Charlie goes out to various "secret" wood sources in his area and brings back wood to CNEW and GIVES it to them with the understanding that some of it should come back as finished products, wo that he can support the FWM. He gave me some wood on the second day I knew him, and I have been a contributor, ever since...
I brought him to show and tell at one of the Old Country Guild of Woodturners meetings where he showed some video footage and talked about the mission.
EVERYONE in the club wanted to get involved. I have already donated a number of turnings, but Charlie said he could use pens... SO, the club started making pens (I don't turn pens, so I supplied a lot of wood and charlie brought the first truck load).
It's a worthy cause, covered in our area by a hard working fun loving guy.

Charlie seems to have the turned wood aspect under control, so I send everything to him and he sends it where it needs to go.
These are the first batch with more to come.

Very cool... I love to see projects like this. I think they let others know how kind and generous wood turners tend to be.

George what a wonderful story. Thanks for sharing. A worthy cause for sure.
