Rosewood and African blackwood, 1.75"x5", waxed/buffed

And finally, all the failures of this week. I know I'm new at this, but I can't seem to get the right thickness on the bottoms. I keep cutting right though to the other side...

Nicely done all the projects Jon! They will be appreciated gifts I'm sure.

Have you seen BIll Grumbine's video and how he makes a tool for finding the bottom of a bowl?

Jon, I have to say they all look very well done! I plan on making a jig that is an adaptation of Grumbine's, before I create some thin firewood!!

Very nice work Jon. Just remember that the inside should be shallower than the outside, not equal.

Really nice gifts Jon. They will be well received. I keep a couple of funnels around just for reminders to measure.

Thanks for comments guys!

It scared the be&$% out of me when that big bowl spun/broke off (luckily I was working on the rim at the time. I'm starting to hear when it's getting too thin.

Jon - nice work on everything! When you start turning thin - your hearing will tell you when things start to get really thin. It takes a little time but you will be able to judge when things get thin enough - without going through the bottom!

Nice work!

Those are some nice projects. I like them all, and am sure the recipients will as well.

I guess I'm missing something, but what is wrong with the front middle bowl in the "mess up" picture?

It doesn't show, but I went through the bottom on it too. Only about half the circumference so the tenon is still attached.
