Well, another weekend has come and gone. Boy time sure does fly the older I get.!

No shop time this weekend......well, yes I did....I spent several hours Saturday working on wiring up the Joe Meazle Shop. That's right, I went over to help Joe wire his shop and tie in his electrical service to his shop as well. I think we had a GREAT time.!!!! :D It was dreary and rainy, but we did real good and got the shop all wired up, panel built and service tied in all 5 hours time. I am happy to say that it was great to spend time with a fellow woodworker and friend and helping them get power to their shop.

Church Sunday and family night is always Sunday night where we do Nachos and watch a little tv together as a family.

Back to work today. So what did YOU do this weekend?

Best of weeks to you all....

Saturday was the monthly Woodworker's Club of Houston meeting. Seminar was given by Texas Kiln Products out of Bastrop. Satuday afternoon was talking with a client, some shop cleanup. Saturday evening was Mexican food with friends. Sunday after church, and after the nap(!), got the cherry blanket chests finished.

It ain't over yet! A big four day-er going down in the hood. Took in a little culture with a great folk concert over bye the UofM. More home work for the WW unplugged class. Still trimming out windows and doors and incorporating some scary sharp Neander tools to fine tune the joinery:cool: . I'm liking the blend of both worlds.

Putting some of the final touches on the Minneapple SMC Get together. It's show time.

Today a little time with mom and maybe some antiquing with a combo of fall colors.

I worked on getting the spare out of the bed of the old Chevy truck and up under the back end via a swing out tire carrier. Got it from a guy for $20!

Then I started the rehab on the new shop to kitchen door. The new one was rotted at the bottom so I cut off the last two inches and replaced it with a cut 2x4. Installed the cat door so the shop cat can roam at will and polished the window in the top half. Also got the first coat of paint on it. That's all I did except rest a bit.

Well no shop time this weekend (most of my time is during the week). Me and the Mrs. went for a hike in the woods on Sunday. She picked leaves and I looked at fabulous oak trees wondering what kind of lumber they would produce. :D Next weekend is the woodworking show in downtown Minneapolis. I gotta figure I'll be playing with some new toy next weekend.

Inspired by "Woodturning Techniques" Saturday night on DIY, my kids and I made a bunch of tops yesterday and colored them with magic marker. Kids had a ball, although I split a few dowels in the process!! Also hooked up my dust collector to a Long Ranger III. What a luxury not having to walk over to the DC, bend down and flip the switch every time I want to use it!!

Unlike Tyler, I'm back to work today, although it'll be a slow day for us corporate types as the stock markets are all closed.

All of the soffits and overhangs are done on the shed. Welp... almost done. Its just my luck that I ran out of beaded pannel with only a 4"x10" spot left on the soffit. I may have enough scrap to piece it together. I sure hope I dont have to buy another $20 sheet of plywood. I also have started the trim work and I have 14 bundles of cedar shingles for next weekend.

Still the weekend here for me :D Finishing up a little corner shelving unit for my daughters room. She helped by cutting out the face pattern with a jigsaw. Mom was a bit nervous...but she did an awesome job.

It was a "black and green" weekend for the most part. Since Bob Marino brought his family down to enjoy the long weekend, he dropped off a whole bunch of stuff on Saturday morning in preparation for our "Festool-val" on Sunday. (see http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=12781) I had some quality time with both the soon-to-be-released-to-the-US OF 1400 EQ Plus router (~12 amps and really smooth...review to come soon) and the new TDK drill/drivers. (see http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=12766) I also got a little progress done on the armoire project (see http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=12329) by getting the carcass glued up. This is my "largest" project so far, at least vertically, and I'm looking forward to the next steps, which include building the doors, two internal drawers and some custom molding work for the crown.

Dr SWMBO and I also moved the fishies inside from the small pond we built in what was originally a dug well out front. Although it's 30" deep, 12" of that is above ground and we felt it was marginal for them to survive the winter, especially with a colder one predicted. So the 7 Shebunks and Goldfish now live in a 15 gallon stock tank in the basement with all the comforts of "home". They are still getting used to the new environment, especially after the trauma of the "evil net", but should be quite happy over the coming winter months.

And now on to a fun-filled week of non-stop conference calls, etc....gotta be able to pay for that future "black and green" that I'm coveting. Hands-on is dangerous to the wallet! Enjoy a safe week!

No shop time. Friday Night I went to see a concert - .38 Special, Night Ranger and Shooting Star (a local band that was big in early 80's). Great night, date with the wife.

Saturday and Sunday was spent out at Kansas Speedway watching the Busch and Nextel races. Two great days, awesome weather and great finishes.

No Shop Time. LOML's Grandmother visited on Friday, Camping with the family on Saturday, Big Sur, CA. Beautiful!!! First time my wife's camped and I think she's done for awhile. Our daughter had a great time getting dirty but had a hard time sleeping in the tent. My wife and her ended up sleeping in the car, leaving me to a big tent and not a lot of covers. COLD! Sunday afternoon was relaxing and football. 49ers WIN!!!! First this year, maybe things are looking up. Always great to get out and look at nature, even if you do sit and think about which big oak would make the best coffee table. :)

Worked on my outside patio pavers and stone wall most of the time- the cooler weather finally makes grunt work easier for me. Put in a couple hours on a cherry jewelry box. Time to attack the dovetailed drawers with my unused PC Dovetail jig. This will be a first for me, hope I don't screw them up too badly:) .

I spent the weekend making 130 marking knife blades from O-1 tool steel precision ground bar stock. Made all of the cuts to length, ground the shanks to width, stamped the Chester Toolworks acorn logo on the blanks, ground points, ground blade bevels, and got 60 of them heat treated. I would have completed the heat treating of the rest of the blades but I ran out of propane for my torch. I guess I need to stop at HD on my way home from work tonite to get a couple of more tanks for the torch. The only actual working with wood this weekend was making a fixture to hold the makers mark stamp vertical and position it over the right place on the blades when using the arbor press. Stamping 130 impressions by hand with an arbor press has had me running for the Advil since Saturday nite. Maybe this coming weekend I can actually find time to butcher some wood.

d,

Well, Saturday I spent tweaking the new truck. I got all the emblems removed, the windows tinted and got a good wax job on it.

It sure is purty.....

<IMG SRC="http://www.terryhatfield.com/nt3.jpg">

Sorry for the repeated gloat. :D

Sunday I spent on the lake fishing with a good buddy. It was rainy and windy but we still caught quite a few and had a really good time.

Everyone have a good week,

making a box support for a upper staircase platform for a pine staircase I started. [1 of four staircases I have going].
Got it all built then discovered I did not allow for the actual platform floor thickness, 1 3/8" too wide. So I am revaping that this moring. Arrrghhhh:(

Also got the shop addition wall between the mech. room and spray room sheeted up and sealed off. Also got some drywall hung in the spray room on the ceiling. Cool weather is HERE:eek: and need some heat in there when spraying, so I need to keep at it as time permits. Also need to get the blowed in insulation up there to keep the heat in as I will be using a 8' baseboard heater in there for heat.
Got some book work done.

Spent this weekend pre-building three window shelving units to be installed in a coffeshop in Minneapolis later this week. The units will provide display space for products and plants, and perhaps even a modicum of window security. I will supply photos of the completed shelves after installation.

I also finished my last three natural edged bowls by buffing them on my Beall system.

Next weekend, I will be going to the woodworking show in Minneapolis and joining the Minnesota area Creekers for a get-together. Sounds like fun to me.

In between shopping for a new/used car for my son, my men's group and church stuff, I installed some spice racks, got the mouldings finished and put up for my kitchen cabinets and started cleaning up my shop. Worked a little on figuring out how I want to build my plywood cart.

Good news: The kitchen is done!

Bad news: I still didn't find a suitable car.

Well I had quite a bit of shop time this weekend I am building things for a craft show the 23 of this month. so far I have 5 wooden trash cans 7/8th completed and a couple of gun racks unfinished. this weekend looks to be a staining and sealing weekend. I must have been getting tired sunday because I was sanding on my 9 in disk sander and lost my concentration and the board flipped and my little finger got half the side sanded off. So I shook it off and wrapped a paper towel around it so I could finish. Well I ended up sanding the rest of the finger , so I shut it down for the day. then Stupidity struck me for the third time and I went to burn our burn pile. My wife had poured gasoline ( I thought it was Kerosene, which was what I told her) on the pile. I made a torch and threw it on to well it didn't catch. so I walked up to the pile and threw a match on it. It caught burned to hair off of one leg and my right arm. shortened my beard, eye brows and the right side of my hair. no real burns but it smelled liked burned hair until I took a shower.

slightly smokin :)

I started cleaning my garage out. I have a few projects to do over the winter and I need the room. I've pulled everything out, boxed it and labeled it.

Ok ... so I only have half of it done. It was sounding good. :)

Sadly, not a fun weekend. It started off Fri., when the stationary windows we had delivered turned out to all be the wrong size! *Their* fault, but screwed up my next few weekends! Did manage to start on kitchen project, which was also filled with many "surprises"! Getting tired of this old house in a real hurry!

Speaking of Chester Toolworks, when are you going to get your web site up?

I spent most of the weekend visiting with my youngest daughter and a friend of hers that came home with her for the weekend. Saturday, mowed the lawn, and made a pair of stilts for a friend to use at a costume party and built a prototype blast gate. Sunday watched football with the family and enjoyed a couple of great meals of the wifes cooking, (which she doesn't do often anymore since she "Divorced the Kitchen" when the daughters moved away).

I met Rob Russell for lunch on Friday. As it turns out he works for one of my accounts. It was nice to meet and no we did not take pic's ;)

Rob was leaving for a month long vacation down under !!

Other than that I spent the rest of the weekend on a trip to the beautiful state of New Hampshire. The weather was perect and the foilage was bright. My daughter had a soccer tournament. They lost in the semi-final match which had 2 Over times and it took 6 penalty kicks to finally decide the winner. :(

My wife had poured gasoline ( I thought it was Kerosene, which was what I told her) on the pile.

Wow! You are lucky to be alive. I did the same thing a couple of times when I was a young lad. A friend of a friend and his father were both killed a few months back by gasoline and a burn pile. They were doing the WORST thing - pouring gasoline on a fire already going. Flame traveled up the stream and exploded the can.

Count yourself blessed!

Well hang in there John. I will show some progress eventually.
At least thats what I tell my wife.:o
Our old house has been in the REMODEL stage since we purchased the place. 1995. It is framed in Oak, been added on several times, resided several, on and on. Never ending seems like. Window here, window there.

Spent Saturday working on the living room remodel - it has expanded into the entryway and stairway to the upstairs. Picked up the Tongue & Groove (V-Groove) knotty pine paneling for the walls (76 1x6 & 76 1x8's - the cool thing is that if you put a 1x6 then a 1x8, your coverage is exactly 1 ft.). Also picked up around 9 half-pints of stain for LOML to pick from.

Sunday was spent repairing the bottom panel of a co-worker's garage door - his wife smashed into it last winter. He has placed an order for me to make a replacement and we wanted to just patch up the original to make it through the winter and give me time to ake one for him.

Hopefully, this weekend I will be able to get my new Hydronic Panel Radiators installed and get all the air purged from them and not be without heat for more than 1 day. LOML has to pick out the stain quickly, so I can get the paneling up behind where the radiators are going, can't get behind them once installed. Boy are the tools required for dealing with PEX tubing expensive - $204.00 for the crimpers alone! NOt to mention the assorted hardware, fittings, etc. Wow!

Well anyway - Y'all have a good week.

Well,
Saturday I went to see the big boys from NHRA qualify at Maple Grove - rain date and a friend couldn't make it, so he gave me his tickets. :D If you have never witnessed a 4.45 second 330 mph 1/4 mile then you probably wouldn't understand. All I can say is WOW! It has been a few years since I've been to a national. I usually go for the local grudge races on Friday nights - they're a hoot.
I was able to get my CMS mounted onto a new bench/shelf. I built the side tables so storage boxes can fit into them. Now I just need to make the boxes - and get all of the junk packed back onto the shelves.
