One of the benefits of learning to turn is the opportunity to make Christmas gifts for loved ones. After experimenting with our first two efforts, my brother and I have been busy in Santa's workshop making bowls number three through nine.

The design we developed has double curve sides, continuous scoop interiors, and an intentionally wide flat rim. The blanks are figured maple purchased at Rockler.

The primary tool used was a Henry Taylor HS1 (Kryo) 5/8 Super Flute bowl gouge. The bowls were sanded in eight steps from 80 to 800, polished with EEE-Ultra Shine, and finished with Shellawax Cream.

Our favorite blank was a rare find - Spalted Figured Maple! This one is for Mom.

Beautiful bowls Joe, but are you sure you turned them? That lathe is cleaner than mine when it came out of the box!

Merry Christmas!

I may have tidied up a bit for the photos. Plus it's still low mileage with that new lathe smell!
