I will soon (and very soon) be looking to purchase a new table saw. I'm starting from the ground up (looking at this from scratch) and my price range will be $600-$800. I'm sure you all have gone through this before, but I would appreciate the help.

Thanks!

A Simple but not specific answer is used.

Buy Delta, PM etc . . . from the early days. You can get an older saw in plug and plug condition in your price range and nothing you can buy new will even come close to the quality. In fact you could probably get a used Cab saw versus a new contractor/hybrid saw for the same money.

If you want more info and some research tips, PM me.

Jon - Do you have 220v available? Saws with a motor rating of 2hp or more will require 220v operation. If not, you're limited to the 1.5 to 1.75hp range.

If you have 220v, the Grizzly G1023S is an outstanding buy at $919 shipped...just a little above budget, but a lot more saw for the money in a new saw.

Otherwise, I'd look into one of the many hybrid or contractor saws from Jet, Grizzly, GI, Craftsman, Ridgid, Delta, Steel City, or Shop Fox. The hybrids tend to have the most inherent design advantages, but weight out all options before deciding.

Used is a great way to get the most for your money if the right deal comes along.

Jon,

Scott Spencer, as usual, is right on with the "critical" question in the price area you mention. In that range, with 220v and just about $100.00 more the 1023 is a dynamite saw. I've got one and so do many creekers. Otherwise a hybrid of some sort is the way to go. Welcome to the creek, a source of unbelievable amount of help and support. We'll even cry with you when you mess up. Bound to happen, we know!

I'd recommend grabbing a Grizzly 1023 while they're still on closeout. I love mine!

I've had mine for over 6 years and it's still going strong. No repairs. Complete satisfaction...gee...I should call the worlds records people !

The other suggestion of buying a used Delta or Grizz on craigs list is a good one. Unless some one has really abused a used saw, they are a great deal. Also some woodworking stores allow locals to publish TS offers on their bulltin boards. Highland Hardware being one.

Good Luck!

Here's a 3hp Shop Fox W1677ORIG cabinet saw (http://www.grizzly.com/products/W1677ORIG-3HP-Cabinet-Saw-with-Original-Fence-Rails/T21851) (identical to the Grizzly 3hp left tilt) but with the original Shop Fox fence....$795. It's showing $21 shipping, but I'm not certain that's correct.
