Is there a good ( or even average) service manual for the 1983 Buick Park Avenue? Searching out of print book sellers online, I don't see a Chiltons or Haynes manual for that car. (And I don't see the factory manual for sale.)

I would start with your local public library. They tend to keep books longer, as well as having access to (some libraries do, others don't), things like Mitchell's online service (wiring diagrams and such). For basic mechanicals, you could also find out what other (same year) vehicles had that motor combo in. (then look at its book)

Stephen,

Here are some possibilities:

Diagnosis and repair manual : Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC : easy-to-follow picture and symbol troubleshooting (http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/10234538). 5th ed. General Motors Corporation [Southfield, Mich. : General Motors, 1983] (Chilton mechanic's handbook, 6.)

Chilton's guide to diagnosis and repair of GM cars and trucks : problem diagnosis for major systems of 1970-83 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile and Pontiac cars and light trucks (http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/12803344). General Motors Corporation.; Chilton Book Company. [Radnor, Pa. : Chilton, 1983]

Chilton's illustrated diagnostic manual : key vehicle systems, 1970-1983 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet cars and 10-30 series trucks, GMC 15-35 series trucks, Oldsmobile, Pontiac (http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/11344706). Motor/age professsional mechanic's ed. Chilton Book Company. Radnor, Pa. : Chilton], 1983.

General Motors--Buick, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, 1972-1985 : tune-up, maintenance (http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/12057148). 3rd. ed. Kalton C Lahue; Sydnie A Wauson; Clymer Publications. Arleta, Calif. : Clymer Publications, 1985.

You can look to buy these online, but also print of the pages from these links and go you your local public library (or college library if you are a college student) and ask about "Inter-Library Loan" (I.L.L.). Most libraries offer this service free or at a minimal cost.

Thank you for those titles. I gather they cover a variety of cars.

I'm not a college student, so I'll look online.

The undercarriage for that car was used for a variety of cars - so you may be able to find the service listed under another one.

Is this a new to you car?

In searching for books, I noticed a (to me) unfamiliar line of books by "Motor Auto Repair". Most are for sale by Canadian booksellers. Does anyone know how well this line of books is written.

For example: Motor Auto Repair Manual: General Motors: Buick,
Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, 1983-1989
ISBN 087851703/0-87851-707-3

Stephan,

MOTOR manuals are often found in professional repair shops. They are based on OEM information and up until information went digital they were one of the preferred sources for the independent repair technician.
