I made a bowl out of spalted maple and when I started to core it, I found that the first core would have had all the spalting features at the bottom of the bowl. Instead, I chose to make a mushroom shaped HF. Here is the parent:

Critical Comments welcome.

Hilel - real good looking bowl! Love the wood! You stated you cored this - how big is it? Great looking finish also!

That's a nice bowl. When I started looking around here for turning advice is the first time I saw spalting. Well I had seen it, but not as a usable or desired feature, and didn't know what it was. I still gets me everytime I see a great looking piece that is spalted. Good job on that one.

Thanks for the kind words. The original (mother/parent) bowl is 13" by 6.5" high. The mushroom shaped child is 10.5 by 4.5 inches.

Hilel.

very nice. I'm always on the lookout for a nice bit of spalted maple but nothing suitable has come my way yet.
