View Full Version : Just can't decide between a G0513X2 or G0514X2

It's a $380 price difference. I can afford either, but saving money is never a bad idea. The benefits to the G0514X2 are

1) geared table tile mechanism
2) 2" wider table (and throat)
3) 2" deeper table
4) +1 HP

I have read a ton of differing opinions and I'm just still not sure whether the G0514X2 is worth the $380 more than the G0513X2. Anyone have experience with both who can comment?

Do you have the power to run the 19" saw? It takes more than 12/2 wire for its outlet, IIRC. Otherwise when you consider the items you list, that's about $380 in material and additional costs to make the 19" saw over the 17". When I looked I didn't G0514X2 as a bargain nor overpriced, but I didn't have the power available to run the 19" saw. I had just enough juice for the 17". I was looking at a high end 14" saw but opted to up-spend and save myself the troubles later and got a G0513X2. And I'm not the least bit sorry I did.

I have the 513X and although I just finished resawing some 10" red oak and it did great, I would jump at an extra horse.

Actually 12/2 should work just fine. It only requires a 20A circuit. Unless I am wrong, that should be just fine, and then I would have to rewire my table saw.

I have the 513x2. I chose it due to size and money. I don't regret the decision. If you have the money, get the 514x2. You will be happy with either.

My "shop" is in my garage and electrical work is no sweat. I'll just run another circuit if need be.

Matt, you'll never be unhappy with a bigger saw

I just ordered the G0514x2b. I was in the same boat that you were. My shop can handle the bigger jump in hp. I did not want to later on say that I wish I had gone with the bigger machine. I am slowly upgrading to 3hp on most of my equipment. It is so much nicer. You won't be dissapointed...MK

I had the same decision, went with the G0514x2 about 18 months ago, I have never regretted it. On the other hand, I have regretted choosing a hybrid table saw every time I rip some thick lumber ( when I bought the TS I thought it would be expensive to run 240V power to my shed).

I have never regretted getting something that was too big. Bigger is better 99.99% of the time.

My 514X runs just fine on 12/2.
In fact, I have two 240v circuits on 12/2; one for my tools (3hp TS, BS, and Jointer) and one for my Cyclone. Cyclone kept tripping the breaker, so I swapped breakers and everything is fine now; all the tools work on the weaker breaker.
Unless the 514X is way different than the 514X2...

I have the 513x2 and its everything I need. That being said however I dont think you will ever say, "wow I wish I had bought the smaller saw". If you can afford it, have the space and all that get the bigger saw.

I went with the 14X2 due to the foot brake. The motor break on the 13X2B is another alternative, but I was hesitant on stopping so much mass so suddenly, although it may not be an issue.

I agree with the bigger saw crowd. A geared table mechanism is really nice if you do a lot of tilting. My 16" Walker Turner saw has a worm mechanism and it is really convenient. I run 2 hp on it and I can see where 3 would be even better. 2hp is barely enough for resawing a gnarly log when the kerf starts to close on you.

I'm not sure I would care about motor brake vs foot brake so much, but I'm fairly certain the motor brake doesn't work if the power fails on you while you are cutting. It applies a DC bias to the motor while it is shutting down to use it as a generator and dumps the energy to a resistor. I don't think it works if you just yank the plug, but I could be wrong.

I have the G014X2 and I'm very satisfied. I wanted the larger table. Also I do a lot of resawing and I wanted the 19" wheels. The bigger the wheels, the better it is for the 1" blade I'm running.

My preference is for a foot switch to turn the saw off, which is what the foot brake does. What good is a motor brake if you have to let go of the workpiece to turn the saw off?

BTW, thanks everyone, I went with a 514x2.

I purchased the G0514X2 earlier this year. It is a great saw. Plenty of power to resaw 10 to 12 inch walnut, mahogany, beech, etc. I like the foot brake/cut-off switch. I don't use the brake much, but it is definitely convenient to kill the power with my foot. Use it all the time.
I also like the geared tilt table. I don't use it much, but it makes dialing in the right angle a whole lot easier than having to hold the table and tighten the clamp on the 513X2. It also makes it easy to square the table back to 90 degrees to the blade. And the larger table size is a bonus.
I posted a review of the saw when I got it. You can read it here:

I also built a custom mobile base for the saw that works great. I have a small shop, so I need to move the BS every once in a while.

If you can afford the extra $ and have the space in your shop, go with the 514x2.
