I've been putting together a Jewelry Box as a gift for my sister. When I fit the lid to the box, the proportions just do not look right. The box is 11" x 8 1/4" x 3 1/2". The lid is 1/2" stock with an 11 degree bevel. It just looks like the box is too tall when compared to the lid. I'm thinking about taking 1/2" off the box height. What do you guys think? What would be a good height for the box? This is my first project so I am learning a lot. Thanks for any advice!

Maybe you could do a cove in the top... that would bring the sides down the 1/2" you're looking for, yet remain the same in the center..

I'm thinking it looks fine, and could use some short legs under it.

Yep. Needs legs. I am guessing you are putting trays inside?:) Good luck.

Sounds like it needs some legs...I'm thinking about some 1/4" thick L's made out of maple (same as the panel insert) maybe 1" x 1".

I was only going to put one half tray on the second level. Should I build a pull out tray for the bottom level as well?

Thanks for the advice!

I agree that the thing looks a bit off, but I'm not sure legs would improve that. Make a cardboard box that is shorter to see what it looks like.To keep the height you could put a base moulding to get a visual break at the bottom.
