A Jointer question

Hi All

Happy holidays

So I have an older JET jointer old blue color scheme JJ-6CS and just wanted to know is it possible for the cutter head to be out of alignment with the table? Have tried a few different things and the trailing back right end is always a little thicker, If I align the knifes edge with the outfeed table it looks like the cutter may be out of alignment.

It is possible. It is also easy to correct by putting a shim under the bearing block that is low.

Is the jointed surface actually irregular? Jointers do not necessarily make things a consistent thickness, they make things flat. If you are achieving a flat surface, your planer will take care of the thickness variation. If you are jointing a twist or other irregularity into the face, table or cutterhead adjustment is what you are after.

Your manual should have some instruction. The cutterhead should be even with the outfeed table (or the other way around if you prefer). Adjustments for this vary by design but are fundamentally of a gib/dovetail-way or parallelogram design.

You always align the knives with the outfeed table anyway, so it doesn't really matter unless it is way out. How much are we talking about?
