I'm having trouble with .pdf's
Is it because I'm using V12?
How can I make .pdf's like the attached one import into Corel? Frustrating.

There is a font missing , so it imports using a default or user font and the characters arent correct , you need to install the font

I opened it in AI and saved it as a pdf.

Email me and I'll reply back with a pdf that will work. It's too big to post here.

What happened when you tried to import the pdf? If you tell us what went wrong maybe someone can help.

If I try to import the pdf into Corel 11 I get the font sub error that Rodne had. Yes, you will need all the fonts on your system if the customer did not embed them.

But after allowing the substitution, it imported, but all the musical symbols were question marks.

What I have often done is to create a postscript file and import that instead.

I have Adobe Acrobat, so it allows a "save as . . .ps file" option. But if you only have Reader you can still make a ps file. If you have a postscript printer installed already, you can try that driver (just tick off "print to file") so it does not go to the printer. If you don't have a ps printer, you can probably download a generic one from Adobe. Or even get one for a printer you don't own (like HP 1300). Again, print the image as a postscript file. Then try importing that into CorelDraw.

This method often works for me when other options fail.

You will get thousands of objects in your file so it may be difficult (slow) to edit it.

I have had trouble, probably font issues also, so I import in Adobe Elements, then I can convert the design to tif & then import into corel. Then I just redraw or trace the missing elements.

If the pdf shows correctly on your own computer (with the fonts appearing as they should), then in the Corel import dialogue, try "import text as curves". This normally works for me.

Doug,
It's not as bad as it sounds, most of the time there are just a few parts that don't work, like the lettering, which is usually easy to identify & re-do.
