Any "must visit" places for woodworkers in the Asheville/Brevard area. I'm heading that way soon.

Any woodworker traveling to or through Asheville, NC absolutely has to visit the Grove ParK Inn. If you've never heard of it, it's an old Arts & Crafts style grand lodge. The building itself is impressive enough to occupy a few hours of oggling (espcially considering there's a bar in the lobby), and on top of that it's filled to the rim with both original and reproduction Stickley and Roycrofter pieces of furniture. I'm sure they have a website, but I don't know it off the top of my head.

Also, behind the Inn is a series of shops and gallaries. The shops house actual woodworkers and other craft industry types, and the gallaries show off their work as well as that of other craftsmen. There was quite a bit of nice furniture.

Believe me, you won't be disappointed.

If you like to hike you need to see the Joyce Kilmer National Forest. Likely the last stand of original growth forest remaining in the East. Trees with 8' dia. trunks.
