Well, here is the coffee table to match the slant leg tables I posted a few eeks back(http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=12141)

The top is all book matched from one board. I used Moser Brown water dye..that was "thinned" out for a softer color. For the top coat I used Pratt and Lambert #38 varnish....which I thinned out 75% varnish to 25% mineral spirits to make a wipeing varnish. The base is painted with a dark milk paint then coated with satin lacquer. All mortise and tenon jointery.

Thanks for looking!

Spectacular, Donnie, just spectacular. That gorgeous curly maple just floats on the black base. The base supports the top but does nothing to detract from that beautiful wood. The base is lovely too but it is hard to look past that curly maple. Thanks for sharing... :D

Donnie, that is a fantastic looking table. You said the top is book matched from 1 board. It looks like it's 4 boards wide and about an inch thick. So does that mean the original board was over 4 inches thick??? That's one heck of a slab of curly maple.

Again, beautiful piece.

Be well,

Doc

So very, very beautiful, Donnie. How much dye does it take on a piece size?

Beautiful piece of work Donnie!

Just curious, what method did you use to attach the top to the base?

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks guys!

Let me clarify the top. I had one 10/4 board that I resawed and book matched the center of the table from. Then, the two outside sections of the table top were matched from the same 10/4 board...which is why it looks almost seamless.

I mixed this batch of dye in one of those jars you get your grape jelly in. I filled it to the top and used about 1/4 of the jar...so not a lot of dye. The top was fasten useing figure 8's. I am a bit "giddy" about putting anything on top of it....I dont want to cover up the top.

Thanks again.
