Had my old Delta DP350 (pos) die on me in the midst of making xmas presents, so I snapped up a 17-950. Assembly went smoothly, no vibration and it was drilling 2" dia holes using a forstner bit. Drilled about 100 holes and now when the bit hits the wood the spindle just stops rotating. The bit is new, and the speed is set for 250. I really need to get this fixed since LOML is going to have me crucified if I don't get these gifts ready for mailing :)

Any advice/help would be appreciated. BTW the drill press is just a couple days old, and to send it back would be a real problem (divorce)!!!

Thanks in advance

Check the pulleys. The set screw might be loose. Probably an easy fix.

If you have determined that:

A) The drill is not spinning in the chuck.

B) The tapered spindle nose is not spinning in the chuck.

Then I would open the pulley cover and make sure that all belts are intact, and there is sufficient tension on them. If this checks out, check to see if any of the pulleys are slipping. It could be something as minor as tightening a grub screw.
