I bought one of these last weekend. Anyone know what the original intended use was? (See picture here: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=12626) One antique dealer told me it was for hollowing a track for a door to run in/slide on. Not sure if that was correct or not.

It is just what it appears to be - a very small plane, for doing miniature work. I doubt it's use was limited in scope any beyond that.

I believe it was marketed to model builders and pattern makers. Stanleys version of it always seems to fetch a fair price on ebay...

A PT luthier buddy uses them in instrument making. Specifically the arched back and front of a mandolin. His specialty.
