Do any of you Know of an easy way to remove parting tool nibs? I have the stem to a wine glass that has a nib on the bottom.

If I understand what you are asking, I just use a sharp pocket knife and maybe some sandpaper.

A small sanding disk, say 1", mounted in the drill press gives good control while power sanding the bottom of small bowls, goblets, etc.

I would say a knife, and then some clean up with sandpaper or even a scraper - the cabinet (aka ****work kind).

A Dremel tool with a small drum sander will do the trick nicely.Max

If you use a woodcarving gouge such as this http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2001293/1230/PFEIL-Swiss-Made-8mm--Gouge--No-5.aspx to make the final cut for the part, you can all but eliminate the little nub, which is caused by the endgrain tearing out, rather than being cut or sliced. This isn't a very good picture, but the blade of the gouge is slightly convex, so conforms to the curve of of the object you are parting off. It's very thin at the tip, so it slices cleanly. I leaned of this through Bill Grumbine's Bowl video.

Tiny nib, large finger/toe nail cutters. 1" sanding mandrel in Jacobs chuck on lathe.

I use a razor sharp 1/4 bench chisel. Works well for me.

I just sand them off with a 2" sanding disc. I try to do the whole bottom to smooth it up. End grain sands easily and don't need to go as fine on the grits. If I have the room I part off with a skew which does not leave the "nib".
