I'm looking for a heavy duty curved tool rest with a 30MM post for a vicmarc VL300. I can't seem to find one. Even an "S" tool test with a 30MM post would work.

Anyone have any leads?

Jonathan,
I just got a VL300 longbed Vicmarc from Woodworker's Emporium and bought a 30 mm adapter that reduces the tool post holder on the banjo to 1 inch. It works perfect and I can use all my old 1 inch tool rests. Also, there are a lot more options at 1 inch than 30 mm. Although their on-line ordering is not operating, you can call them at (702) 871-0722. I think it was around $30.

Check out the classifieds on the penturners website... I believe there's a guy on there that is selling modular custom tool rests at a reasonable price. I don't have any experience with them, but they look nice in the photos. If you get one, please post a review.

Try here.....the Sorby modular system. I had one on my Jet Mini and when I upgraded to my PM3520B, I just bought a new center post and the rest of them were still useable.

Do you like to modular system? Do you get a lot of flex towards the end of the tool rest? That would be my main concern.

Jonathan,

I like it and it works well. I haven't noticed any flex.

Initially when I bought the setup, I was a little concerned because it's round versus the traditional shape of the Jet tool rest and later the PM tool rest with which I was familiar. Now, the Sorby is my main tool rest and only use the PM tool rest when I an turning a long spindle and want an unmoving long tool reference....the PM is 14" IIRC.

The Sorby modular isn't that expensive and it's performs well.....changes easily.....I'd do it again and it would be my "go to" toolrest as it is today.
