I am getting ready to buy a used WDS1600 drum sander for a great price but it doesn't have a motor attached.

Reading the manual I know it has to be ~1700 rpm and more than 1 hp. But I couldnt find how the motor mounts to the drum plate. This is a direct drive unit so no pulleys or belts. I am guessing it needs a motor that has the four screw holes that is common on C face motors.

Are there any creekers out there that have or had this sander and know of requirements for a motor or even motor upgrades.

Here is the manual that I found online. Page 13 has a decent shot of the motor plate.

It's been a while since I sold mine, but I'm positive that it was a 56C motor. There's a Lovejoy type coupling in between the motor and drum, I don't remember if it was generic or proprietary so you might have some work to do there. You'll want a 1 or 1.5 HP motor, and it'll need to be 120 volts to work with the rest of the electrical on the machine unless you want to mess with a 120/240 volt 4 wire setup for the feed motor.

Thanks for the help. Now I need to start looking for a motor.
