I will have a chance to harvest a medium size redwood tree that is healthy, but is scheduled to be removed do to its close proximity to the house foundation. The tree will be cut down in approximately 15 ft. long sections. I am having trouble finding someone in the Los Angeles area that can mill the logs into lumber. Any suggestions?

Check for a sawyer on either The Forestry Forum (www.forestryforum.com (http://www.forestryforum.com)) or on Woodweb (www.woodweb.com (http://www.woodweb.com)).

If the logs are much larger than 30" in diameter, look for someone with a swing-blade mill. Most swing blade mills will handle logs up to 60" in diameter.

If the logs are smaller than 30", a band mill would be the best option. Woodmizer maintains a listing of their mill owners, and they can put you in touch with their local representative, who in turn can recommend one of their Woodmizer owners.

Scott is giving you great advice. If you wanted to transport the log to New England I could do it for you though :D
