Lately I have been making Christmas ornaments, this is three of the many that I have made. The left ornament is mahogany with cherry finial, 2" diameter by 6" height. The middle ormanment is cedar and cherry finial. The right ornament is unknown wood with walnut finial. They are all hollowed out through a 3/8" hole. All comments welcome.

Very nice... I've turned several recently but none worthy of posting. When they start to look like yours, I'll start taking pics.

Very nice! I like the color of the first one, and the finial of the first one, but the shape of the body on the second one - if you are taking votes!:D

Hey Ron,

Great job !

I'm interested in seeing what your hollowing tools look like.

Great job! I've started making a few, both as practice hollowing (my first blow out) and getting my finials thinner. If mine were as good I would have posted some pics myself!
It looks like you are developing a 'style' for your finials, something I haven't settled on yet. What are you using to hollow through a 3/8" hole? Mine are larger at 5/8" and I often enlarge that slightly with the tool as I clean inside the opening.

Nice ornaments Ron
I like the string through the top better than the tiny screw eyes that I use.

134794Thank you for the comments. Tim and Thom I make my own tools out of screw driver and hardened nails. You do need a way to heat them and bend them. I have welder that i use. The screw driver shafts are 1/4" and 3/16" dia. I have made 22 tools like these some work better than others. Hope this helps. Ron

Thanks Ron for the tool picture, now I feel like I'll be better able to make
some similar tools of my own.

How much heat to bend them? Would a butane torch be enough?

Thanks,

Dan

A torch and a hammer should be enough. Ron
