Quilted or Curly

I made this pencil last night from some scrap a flat-worker gave me. I could not get over the grain in this maple. I don't know if it's curly or quilted or what, but I love the look, it shimmers in the light.

LOML has first right of refusal on anything I make. She said, "I'll take that one." That's high praise considering how many she's seen.

Sanded to 600, one coat CA, Micro-meshed.

That is curly maple. The "shimmer" is called chatoyance. Makes for some really nice woodworking!!
