View Full Version : Needs to survive a pounding.

I need to make a piece that goes between the cap & the hammer on our post pounder at work. I've turned a couple of them (out of White Oak) but they don't survive for long. They keep splitting and fall apart after a couple of guardrail posts are hammered in. Would re-sawing into 1/4" thick and gluing back together alternate grain work to keep it together? If so, would poly. glue be the best to laminate them together? It will stay on the cap and be subject to inclement(sp?) weather.

Thanks,

Joe

I would be looking for a high density plastic for this app.
You can call most plastic distrbutors with your message and find several turnable plastics that will outlast any wood.

Good luck
