DC Question

I am getting ready to set up my dust collector which is a Jet 1 1/2 hp with
4" inlet. What I have read on this site is that best to have 6" pipe running.
My question is that will it be OK to step up to 6" right out of the inlet or should I run 4" pipe?

Dave,

Most people run the 6" pipe right from the inlet. You should be able to unscrew the flange that contains the 4" inlets which should expose the 6" connection. On my Jet DC, I ran the pipe right to that connection. Been using it for 2+ years with no problem. Although there are others here more expert than I, my understanding is that the only problem would occur if you ran the DC with no pipe attached so that there was no resistance which would result in the motor over-amping.

Is that a Jet DC-650? If so then you really don't have enough "suck" to pull much of anything through a network of pipes. This class of machine is better at being moved from machine to machine with a 5' piece of flex.

If its the 1100 then you should have double 4" ports that attach to the machine. Just take that piece off of the machine and you'll have one 6" port. Use that for connecting your pipe network to. You can probably pull a small 6" main run to 4" drops that should evacuate a 15" planer, 8" jointer, 10" cabinet saw, and a small sander (Performax 16/32). Just be carefull to place the DC close to the largest chip producers.

You are right. It does have double 4' inlets but somehow I missed knowing
there was also a 6" port behind it. Appreciate the help!
