This came from a big old cherry that got in the way of construction at Fort Eustis VA. My Arborist friend saved himself a $34/ton landfill fee by leaving it in my driveway . Roughly 10" x 5" with 1/2" walls. Two coats of Watco, buffed and Renaissance waxed. I like the way the Lichens hung in there through the turning process...just adds another dimension to the natural edge.

Ted - that is really cool! Beautiful form and wood! The lichen reminds me of a light dusting of snow! Great effect! Never seen that before! Thanks for sharing!

Great photos as well!

Very cool... I envy you guys that can get cherry... especially free cherry. I'm not sure how you finished and buffed it without knocking all the lichen off, but great job.

Awesome.

Tell me how you got all that to stay on?

I can't even get all the bark to stay on, much less the lichen...

Do you just turn it at 100 rpm or something?

Ted, I really like the shape of the bowl! It has very nice color and the bark and lichen is a great touch! Keep up the good work.

Jim,
I usually saturate the bark line with thin CA glue as I work. It does a pretty good job at holding things together.

Fine form on this deep NE. Almost feels like a pot. Love everything about it...Bill..

Ted, that bowl is spectacular. The form is so beautiful. And your finish is so deep! How did you get that? It looks almost irridescent.

Thanks all for the kind comments!!

Shawn...Nothing special on the finish. It's just 2 coats of Watco Danish oil which I let dry for a month. Then I buffed it with tripoli and then white diamond, followed by a hand buffed coat of Renaissance wax. I don't use the Beale system wax anymore because it shows water spots....Renaissance doesn't.
