I've been in kind of a non-practical, natural edge phase lately. This is a piece of American Elm burl I got from a local tree guy. It was cut several years ago, so it was pretty dry and already had some cracking, etc. About 7 inches across and 3 inches tall finished with several coats of antique oil.

Sort of reminds me of a bear claw.

Nice - real nice! Love the jagged natural edge! Great looking wood and the soft finish really allows the wood to stand out without fighting any glare! Thanks for sharing!

Really nice looking bowl. I really like the wood and the jagged rim.

That is a great looking bowl David. Am I seeing correctly that the front rim is smooth. If so, I really like that contrast with the back. It has a great sense of depth to it. Nice job.

You got it right, Mark. The front rim is smooth and shorter than the back rim... In other words, when it's at eye level, you can see the front as well as a portion of the back.

That is an eye catcher. You made the best use of the wood anyone could have.
