For those of you who are curious heres a few links to real time info and a webcam of the mountain. I caught the first explosion( Friday) on the webcam about 15 minutes into it. I was sitting down to pay some bills today and hit refresh on the cam and saw the small steam explosion today.

This is of special interest to me as my wife is about to leave on a trip to Portland. I was thinking of going on this trip a few weeks ago but declined. Now I wish I could go to see the volcano spitting stream and ash.

As one who lives here (and was also here in 1980), you're not missing much. These steam eruptions are not worth watching. In fact the eruptions look like any other hazy day. Anyway, don't feel bad about not making the trip just to see it.

You are right about that Wade. Wait until the big one comes and then, that is something to see.

I remember sitting on our front porch in Everett watching the mushroom cloud getting higher and higher  with the TV going on behind us telling what was going on.

Washing all the ash off everything the next day was no fun though. It was a problem in Everett (126 miles away), I can't imagine what it was like closer to St Helens.

I live about 40 to 50 miles from Mount Saint Helens as the crow flies. Of course if the crow does not fly straight, then a little further. I live east and a little south. Mount Adams is a lot closer, so I hope that one stays quiet. I am hoping for no more then a few puffs of stream. I was not living here in 1980 but owned the property and there was ash from that eruption. Rod in Appleton, WA
