I have a Ryobi Log Splitter Model#49701 that was loaned out and got left in the rain. Now all it does is blow the breaker when I try to start it. I know I know, electricity and water don't mix. I thought only the electric box on the side was messed up since there was water in it when we were trying to see what happened, maybe I could get away with changing a few parts in there.

It has been sitting up for a while. I took it out to start messing with it, and while turning and twisting I could hear water moving inside it. I tipped it on its side with the electric box down and water started coming out of the hole where the wires go into the motor. Now I'm not so sure I can get a real cheap fix out of it. Does anyone know where I should start replacing things and where I can get the parts I will need. Thanks for any suggestions.

I think that has an induction motor right?

The bearings are almost certainly shot. The coils may be ok if the rust isn't locking up the rotor. The contacts of the centrifugal start winding switch (if it has one) will need to be cleaned. It may still work if corrosion hasn't eaten through the varnish on the windings. If it has, it is most certainly scrap.

Looks like it is an induction motor.

If so, it sounds like I need to take it apart and see if it can be cleaned up? If not how much should I expect to get a 15 Amp 1.75 Horsepower 1300 watt electric motor for? And where?
