Just wanted to share this twisted mesquite turning. Measures 16" tall and about 12" at the widest point. Minwax 209 Natural finish and buffed. jg

that's cool - bet it made a lot of noise while on the lathe - looks like a propeller

That's really something! It looks like a hand. That was a great idea for an interesting piece of wood.

First of all, very unique piece and nice job turning it.

It looks like a hand.

Yep... the second and third pictures made me think of a ball glove getting ready to wrap around a baseball.

Very cool... Pretty creative to find that form in that scraggly piece of wood

That's a really wild looking piece of wood. Very nice job.
I assume you sanded that by hand, off the lathe?

mesquite cuts so well you can almost start with 300 grit

Guess one would call that very "organic"! I just call it a beauty. Nicly done keeping everything together too...Bill..

Great looking piece. I am in the process of fiinishing something similar and it was an interesting turn with only 3 trunk sections but over 1/3 open section. You had a lot of branch sections hanging out there. I hope all your knuckles are still intack. I ended up doing a lot of heavy sanding after using the scraper for hollowing out and having so much air involved with the turned surface.

Thanks so much for the compliments and comments. There was a lot of stationary hand sanding involved. I used wet/dry 320 on up to 1K using MinWax 209 Natural and then buffed. Again, thanks for the compliments. jg
