I was reading an old article in Tools and Shops about a small shop Matthew Teague had set up. He used premade sheet metal drawer he got from Lee Valley. They apparantly no longer carry this any more, so does anybody know where I might find these?

Thanks
Todd

Rockler sells a version with slides on them.

Woodcrafts sells a different type that are cheaper.

Thanks John, these weren't that sophisticated. They were just sheet metal and you cut kerfs in your carcasses for the drawers to slide in and out of:

Todd,

Don't want to discourage you, but I've been looking for similar drawers after seeing that same article a year ago. As you found out, LV doesn't sell them any longer and I haven't been able to find a comparable product.

I've resorted to building a similar setup using plastic storage bins with hefty lips (requiring a dado instead of just a kerf cut) or multi-compartment storage bins that also slide into dados.

Good luck!

ShopNotes issue 108 had an article to help with beginners metal working that might help. Basically a little wood, some angle iron, hinges, and tin snips is most of the toolbox you need to make many things. As part of the article is making a break out of wood and angle iron. Not for high volume production, but a weekend of working with sheet metal every once and a while could be fun too.

Thanks guys,

Zayd, I had a feeling this was going to be the case.

Jack, I did see that issue, that's actually what got me thinking about these again - it looks like I may wind up going this way.

Thanks again all.

Todd,

That's funny. I was going to ask you about those myself because I couldn't find them at Lee Valley when I looked. If my goto guy can't find them I suppose I'll use something else.

Talk to ya later, Doug

Here's a pretty decent substitute.
