The spousal unit requested a tray for tea &tc. I had some cherry shorts set aside for a project like this. Dimensions for the tray were made to accommodate our plates...not really sure what that ended up being, as I used a story stick throughout.
This was a nearly 100% neander project - only exception was that I used a planer to get desired thickness.

Basic is good. Simple elegant design. Very nice indeed.

Very nice, and I like the beveled bottom - neat little "extra."

love the grain on the tray bottom. Bookmatched?

Thnaks all for the compliments! Michael, the bottom isn't bookmatched, but I cut both pieces from the same board that I had set aside due to the nice grain. I still have about 5 lf left of that board (IIRC it's about 8" wide), so should be able to get a few more panels out of it.

Mark,
Beautiful work! What finish did you use?

Nothing basic about that. I prefer the adjective 'elegant'. It's clean and feels very warm to me. Subtle nods to quality on the joints.
I gotta say, though, I like the beveled BOTTOM the best. I mean, that's really innovative.

Mark,
I agree with everyone else, very nice work on this tray. I'm curious, what finish did you use, and what are the dimensions for the tray?

Thanks again, everybody. Finish was several (3?) coats Watco Wiping Varnish followed by 2 coats of wax. Like I said, "basic."
