I'm new to pen turning, but decided I was going to make about 40 pens for Christmas gifts. I wanted a quick clamping setup for production boring of the blanks. When I got to number 35 (seventy pieces) I realized that my setup was working well, so I stopped to take some pictures. I thought that it might be helpful to some of you.

The jig consists of a fixed jaw, a loose jaw, and an cam clamp. Here's the photos:

The disk is not circular, but eccentric. When rotated clockwise, the increasing radius clamps tight against the loose jaw.

A quick turn to the right clamps the pen blank securely. The jaws are cut at slightly less than 90 degrees. That way they grab the face of the blank rather than the corner. That makes for a firmer clamp, especially for rough blanks that may not be quite square.

After looking at this photo, I realize it fails on one criteria: photos of a woodworkers hands should show all five fingers when available. You'll just have to trust me on this. I have all ten fingers. :)

Great idea Duane. You will have to post some pics of the pens when you are done.
