a few years ago I made a separator for a shop vac out of a paint bucket, lid, duct tape, and some 2" pvc fittings for under $5.00 and it worked surprisingly well.

To answer your question, a fellow by the name of Ed Morgano (Clear Vue Cyclones) did, and now he's in his 5th year of business doing it.

I met Ed, and he is a great guy and all about Clear Vue Cyclones (http://www.clearvuecyclones.com/) and he don't mind lending an ear and offering advice for those of us in the craft.

Contact Ed, he could probably give, and enjoy giving you some pretty sound advice.

There are attachments for some blowers that turn them into leaf vacs. So I don't see why it can't do sawdust.

I have used a number of different types through work. The do move a lot of air but sucking air is different than blowing air (for some reason).

But t will work

Here (http://www.leestyron.com/dustcollector.php) are some details on a guy who built a very serious system that's virtually completely DIY. I was very impressed, but I haven't tried to make one for myself.

Not enough info- what kind of blower? Is it a furnace fan blower? That won't work worth a darn. Is it a real blower with a 2+ hp motor and 12" or larger havy duty impeller? That will work fine for smaller shop. Go to this site (http://billpentz.com/Woodworking/Cyclone/Index.cfm) for all you need to know.
